If direct or “front door” modes are ineffective for a particular audience, other alternatives beyond the confines of theological and philosophical discourse can be explored. The “side door” approaches discussed – drawing on historical examples as well as making contemporary applications – include architecture, literature, worldly knowledge and wisdom, power events, justice and charity, and Christian community.
