This introductory chapter begins with a discussion on the importance of alignment in managing information technology (IT). It argues that organizations must draw “a line” in the sand, and ensure that the process of aligning IT and business is appropriately managed. It identifies six key components to assess an understanding of IT-business alignment. An overview of the chapters in this volume is then presented.
