Menéndez Aviles, a close friend of the Jesuit Superior General, Francisco Borja, was instrumental in having the Jesuits posted to mission stations of Florida. The methodology of early Christian missionaries and the response of Native American groups are examined. The missionary experience of Juan Rogel is highlighted. Political circumstances, such as the Spanish response to the French in Florida, surrounding early Christianization attempts are likewise taken into account.
