Alan Donagan offered an account of making/allowing in terms of so conducting yourself that what ensues is not (making) or is (allowing) what would have happened in the course of nature. On a reasonable understanding of ‘the course of nature’, this analysis nearly coincides in its output with the analysis in terms of positive/negative, including relating in the same way to the ‘immobility’ objection to the latter (Ch. 6). Differences are discussed, and found to be too recherché to yield decisive intuitions.

Keywords:   active, allowing, Donagan, immobility, making, passive
