The Basic Realism of the Tractatus
Is concerned with the relation between names and objects in Wittgenstein's earlier thought. Pears deduces from the conclusions of the previous chapter his prominent ‘basic realism’ interpretation of the Tractatus, which is based on the idea that once a name has been attached to an object, the nature of the object takes over and controls the logical behaviour of the name, and defends it against rival interpretations.
