Discusses the basic features of casual labour in Palanpur. Various aspects of labour contracts are highlighted. The isolation of the labour market is emphasized, and the absence of labour tying and inter‐linkage is noted. A variety of systems of payments are described and seasonal unemployment is studied. The findings from the Palanpur study are compared with those from other village studies in India.
