Do Greek and Chinese cosmologies relate to different worlds or merely express various views concerning the same, one world? Different world views may be associated with different styles of enquiry, where a style is constituted by different key preoccupations, aims, or methodologies. If we make allowance for the multi-dimensional character of the phenomena to be explained, and for the different possible goals and methods of different investigators, we can steer a middle course between naive realism and outright relativism.

Keywords:   multi-dimensionality of the phenomena, ontology, realism, relativism, styles of enquiry, world views
