The Bible Cause

John Fea

Oxford University Press

This chapter focuses on the creation of the United Bible Societies (UBS). It places the development of this attempt to bring organization to the global Bible Cause in the larger context of internationalism in the wake of World War II, including the development of the United States. It starts with various conferences leading up to cooperation between the American Bible Society and the British & Foreign Bible Society and ends with the 1946 Haywards Heath conference that established the UBS and the way that the UBS would develop in the decades following its establishment. The chapter also examines the early relationship between the American Bible Society and the UBS.
