This chapter explores the translation and cultural history of Good News Bible or Today’s English Version. Published in the mid-1970s, the Good News Bible built off the success of the Good News for Modern Man New Testament translation. The chapter focuses on the reception of this Bible, the debate over how certain controversial passages were translated, and the controversy that ensued over these passages between the translation team under the direction of Robert Bratcher and the leadership of the ABS which tried to be sensitive to the concerns of its large evangelical constituency. This resulted, as the chapter chronicles, in the resignation of the translation team.
