Alla Osipenko

Joel Lobenthal

Oxford University Press

At forty-two, Osipenko was able to recover from a ruptured Achilles tendon and return to the stage. Following her success in Baryshnikov’s “Creative Evening,” the Kirov invited her to return to the company fulltime. But she smelled sabotage when her partner was shuffled at the eleventh hour, forcing her to dance with someone new. Once again she left the Kirov, this time permanently.
