In 1995, Osipenko joined the faculty of the school of the Hartford Ballet in Connecticut.This chapter describes her struggles to adjust to a new language, a new job, and a new culture. Most devastating was the death of her son Ivan Voropayaev at age thirty-four from a bleeding ulcer. The chapter recounts Osipenko’s participation in a 1998 seminar at the Brooklyn Academy of Music dedicated to Vaganova, where she spoke alongside ex-colleague Irina Kolpakova.
