This chapter first considers how to construct a systems dynamics model and how to solve these models computationally. Second, this chapter explores some of the key insights that come from these models and how these models can be combined with observational data. Third, this chapter explores a more complex example of a systems dynamics model, discusses some of the assumptions inherent to this model type, and touches on some basic extensions that aim to address these assumptions. In so doing this chapter sets the stage for the reader to become familiar with systems dynamics models as a tool for population health.
