This article presents a general discussion focusing on the association between migraine and other symptoms such as tension headache and photophobia. There are now attempts to identify what is activating migraine: is it a psychological event that directly activates, cortically, the changes in slow-wave activity, or do we have to propose sub-cortical changes that modulate those cortical activities? How can we get from a primary cortical event to the headache? Some of the trigeminovascular ablative work that Dr Moskowitz is doing is answering that. What we must do in the next few years is to put the whole picture together.

Keywords:   tension headache, photophobia, migraine attack, psychological event, sub-cortical changes, cortical activities
