Human beings can be looked at in many different ways, or there can be different ‘models’ of human nature. The ‘biomedical model’ is the most common in health care, but other models can be found such as those suggested by psychoanalysis, existentialism, Zen Buddhism, Marxism, the Judaeo-Christian tradition, and Islam. These ‘models’ and their relevance to health care are discussed.
Keywords: biomedical model, psychoanalytical model, existentialist model, Buddhism, Marxism, Judaeo-Christianity, Islam
