Palliative Care for Non-cancer Patients

M. A. Heneghan

Oxford University Press

This chapter outlines the epidemiology of end-stage liver disease with particular emphasis on those conditions with greatest prevalence world-wide. It also focuses on the occurrence of symptoms, the syndromes associated with them, and outlines treatment strategies applicable to patient care. These strategies are as relevant in the setting of hospice and domicilary care as they are in secondary and tertiary referral centres particularly given the increasingly dynamic and multidisciplinary approach to palliative care.

Keywords:   epidemiology, end-stage liver disease, patient care, hospice care, domicilary care
