The increasing demands for palliative care services beyond the traditional concentration on cancer and other diseases increased the recognition of the need for comprehensive and cost-effective palliative care services. A total of 103 documents were identified as relevant to the study presented in this chapter. Qualitative and quantitative research with a wide variety of outcome measures were employed. The discussion in this chapter centres on general nursing roles, nursing roles in hospices, nursing roles in hospitals and in the community, specialist and advanced nursing practice, and the psychological support of patients and stress among nurses.
