Who is a carer? Experiences of family caregivers in palliative care
This chapter explores the experiences of selected individuals who were giving care to family member with a terminal diagnosis of cancer and who were receiving specialist palliative care services (SPCS). This chapter is formed on one area of analysis from a research study that explored the perceptions of family caregivers within palliative care. In particular, the present chapter probes the perceptions of the family caregivers of the roles they play and of their relationship with visiting health professionals. Before discussing the findings of the study discussed in the present chapter, the literatures that influenced the structure of study are discussed and examined.
