The contribution of carers to professional education
The contribution of carers to professional education
The earlier chapters have highlighted the failure of professionals in health and social care to recognize the various needs of carers. This illustrates the need for and importance of providing professionals with a broader education that will support them in their attempt to deliver the best care and support for terminally ill patients. It also highlights the indispensable contributions of carers in the field of palliative care and family caregiving. This chapter examines the possible contributions of carers to the development of the education of professionals, in reviewing researches and in the practice observed in the area of palliative care. This chapter concludes with suggestions for good practice that will enable full value to be gained from what the carers can offer.
