This chapter discusses the concept of life and some of the objections that have been raised regarding this concept. One interesting approach towards the concept of life has been made by Aristotle, which is called the life-functional approach. This theory includes a number of functions that are guaranteed to ensure life in a being or a creature: nutrition, sensation, motion, and thought. More modern analyses of this approach are also discussed in this chapter, including the Matthews Approach.
