February 23, 1959, Philippa arrived in Paris and stayed with her recently acquired European godmother, the countess Goguet. All through the African leg of Philippa's journey, Josephine had argued with her over the date of her return. Philippa also spent intimate evenings with Andre Gascht, which she hoped would bring them closer together. Sometime between her Brussels and Amsterdam engagements, Philippa received a telegram asking her to give a command performance for Queen Elisabeth of Belgium on March 12. Nine days after the performance for the Queen, Philippa returned home and felt much anxiety for she was feeling weak and exhausted much of the time.
