The dominant theme expressed in various literatures on corporate success stories often involves how particular leadership styles or organizational structures are being perceived as the “one best model” in running an organization. Although coming up with such a solution simplifies complicated processes, eases planning, and lessens chaos, such would veer away from examining the real problems and other possible alternatives. Most organizations therefore adopt a one-best-model mindset that involves how they believe their way is always best. In American management, the command-and-control model was traditionally viewed to be the best model, since lines of authority are clearly established. This chapter shows that this model is only one of the many models that organizations can utilize. It also illustrates how the interactive leadership model may be more appropriate for organizations that adapt to changes quickly, while also emphasizing the role women play in such situations.
