Rose Picard: “I'm Allowed to Be Happy Even Though I'm Dying”
Rose Picard: “I'm Allowed to Be Happy Even Though I'm Dying”
This chapter focuses on Rose Picard. Mrs. Picard had a full and happy life, until she was diagnosed with cancer of the ovary at the age of 72. Although, in general, cancer patients are in denial of the existence of an incurable illness, Mrs. Picard adapted to the news quickly. When chemotherapy failed and she was transferred to the Palliative Care Unit, Ms. Picard faced her situation with equanimity. Armed by unshaken faith and a calm outlook, she did not escape the impending death, but rather devised preparations for it. However, when Ms. Picard was ready for it, death did not come quickly. Aside from discussing the ordeals Mrs. Picard went through, the chapter also discusses how the Picard family adapted to the Rose's death, and their mourning and bereavement period.
