This chapter discusses the development of a site conceptual exposure model for evaluating current and potential future risks to human health associated with exposures to radionuclides in the environment. The site conceptual exposure model guides the analysis of potential risk and provides the mechanism to understand the behavior and activities through which people are exposed. Representing these behaviors and activities through the development of exposure pathways and exposure scenarios is discussed. Information concerning the components of an exposure pathway along with examples is provided. In addition, a discussion of potential exposure factors (e.g., breathing rates, ingestion rates) needed to quantify risk is also offered.
