From a Danish perspective, the installation Cavaillé-Coll organ was a unique event. The story of this Cavaillé-Coll organ cannot be told only in musical terms, since it is intimately linked to that of the equally unique church where it stands. And since this church owes its existence and highly remarkable appearance to one man, Carl Jacobsen, the story must begin with him, the owner and leader of the Ny Carlsberg Brewery and Denmark's most important patron of the arts. Carl Jacobsen was born in 1842 and died in 1914 Denmark. His father was a well-known brewer who created the brand name Carlsberg. He was associated with the firm his brewer father founded. The Jesus Church bears ample testimony to the importance he laid on the aesthetic side of religion. Psychologically, Carl's personality acquired traits of megalomania. Sometimes he acted more like royalty than a businessman. The idea of building a church can be seen in this context: the ostentatious presence of Carl and his wife, Ottilia, in several places in the Jesus Church has been called blasphemous. One of the functions of the church is that of a family shrine.
