This chapter presents different models and pathways of health and introduces the concept of health determinants, which include genetic susceptibility, physical environment, personal lifestyles and behaviors, and social, cultural and economic factors; explains how these factors interact in the life course of an individual; and utilizes a biopsychosocial model which connects the individual's psychoneuroendocrine and pscyhoneuroimmune mechanisms with the external environment in producing health and disease.
