Development of Palliative Care Services
Development of Palliative Care Services
This chapter focuses on the spread of the palliative care movement from the United Kingdom to other Anglo-Saxon countries. It begins with a look at the development of modern palliative care, before examining the hospice and palliative care movement in Canada, the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and Britain. The chapter reveals that the original model was modified to meet local conditions and constraints, thus making the hospice a home and community-based service. Upon closer examination, effective pain management is found at the very heart of modern palliative care.
