This chapter presents the 1962 paper entitled “Receptive Fields, Binocular Interaction, and Functional Architecture in the Cat's Visual Cortex”. This paper was a continuation of the 1959 paper dealing with “simple cells”. In the previous paper, receptive fields of single cortical cells were described by observing responses to spots of light shone on one or both retinas. In this paper, this method was used to examine receptive fields of a more complex type and to make additional observations on binocular interaction. A different method was followed to study the functional architecture of the visual cortex.
