This chapter starts with five key discoveries of PsyCap efficacy (or confidence) and then, drawing from Albert Bandura's extensive theory and research, defines it and identifies the characteristics of those with high self-efficacy. The supporting cognitive processes of symbolizing, forethought, modeling, self-regulation, and self-reflection are then discussed. The major focus of the chapter is given to the development of PsyCap efficacy in managers and employees: mastery and successful experience, vicarious learning/modeling, social persuasion/positive feedback, and psychological and physiological arousal/well-being. The concluding sections discuss collective efficacy, some potential pitfalls, and future directions for research and practice.
