This chapter focuses on legal tools for controlling sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and certain related bloodborne infections for which sexual transmission is important. It focuses on the public health and legal response to four selected STIs that also are associated with significant bloodborne or perinatal transmission: HIV, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HBV. Together these pose the key legal questions common to all STIs.
