Global Promise: Quality Assurance and Accountability in Professional Psychology

George Hurley

Oxford University Press

Professional psychology aims to raise standards of education, training, licensing, credentialing, and ethical practice in service to the profession and society, promoting humanism through understanding individuals, groups, and communities. Implementing this accountability on an international level is both arduous and challenging, considering the individual establishments, culture, and administration in various countries. Accomplishing this form of globalization would require culturally and developmentally relevant accountability mechanisms that are both adaptive and flexible to influences of national and international change and, so far, the goal has been an increasingly negotiated ideal in many countries in Europe, Australia, and Latin America.

Keywords:   globalization, accountability, accountability mechanisms, national and international change, balkanization, globalized professional psychology
