Interdisciplinary Research

Carol D. Ryff

Oxford University Press

This chapter presents an overview of the three chapters (Chapters 10-12) in Part III of the book. It discusses how the advancement of knowledge on positive health will require integrative research that brings together social and behavioral scientists with biomedical researchers. The chapters demonstrate such an integration and emphasize the potential of psychosocial factors to promote positive health. All are concerned with the mechanisms — behavioral and social, as well as neurological, endocrinological, and immunological — through which such effects occur.

Keywords:   interdisciplinary research, positive health, psychosocial factors
