This chapter presents the text of Ira Gershwin's letter to his mother Rose Gershwin dated July 31, 1931. This letter was written from the perspective of the survivor who had to face the world he had known in a wholly new way. Ira tells his mother about the things he had to deal with after George's death including the Memorial Concert and the Goldwyn Follies. He also mentions that he and George signed a contract as a team, so that when George was through he was through.
