Extrapolation in Social Science
Whereas the previous chapters focused on biological examples, this chapter considers whether the mechanisms approach to extrapolation can work in social science. Two main challenges are examined: that social mechanisms might not qualify as causal structure because they are often altered by policy interventions and that detailed knowledge of social mechanisms is often unavailable.
