Why We Need Theater
Theater is necessary to human cultures in the way language and music are necessary. Theater pervades our lives and occurs whenever we practice the arts of watching or being watched, as in weddings, sports events, and public trials or executions. Art theater as developed in European cultures, however, plays to small audiences.
Oxford Scholarship Online requires a subscription or purchase to access the full text of books within the service. Public users can however freely search the site and view the abstracts and keywords for each book and chapter.
