Historical Narratives of a Jewish Presence in Sub‐Saharan Africa
This chapter provides a historical context for reconstructing the most ancient Jewish or Semitic influences on sub-Saharan Africa or to evaluate the extent of mythical realities. It argues that if we consider the mythic genealogies that recount an ancient presence of Jews in Africa and their progression into the interior of the continent as a whole, the dispersion from Egypt constitutes one of the major narrative patterns claiming a Jewish presence in Africa.
