(p.493) 73 Conclusion
Handbook of International Social Work

Rosemary J. Link

Oxford University Press

This chapter summarizes the discussions in the preceding chapters and presents some concluding thoughts. In gathering the wide array of chapters for this volume, it has become clear that the social work profession is already a global profession. The various sections of this book have shown that the more social workers of an international profession learn from each other's cultures, values, and practice, the more they recognize and espouse interdependence. Although a focus on promoting the well-being of people of all ages, cultures, and abilities in their families and communities remains at the core of a social worker's role, there is now widespread acceptance that international exchange, dialogue, and action are keys to the continuing vitality of the profession.
