This chapter discusses the various types of lending that are based on the value of assets underlying trade financing, international leasing, and infrastructure financing. Each has its own unique characteristics and poses unique challenges to banks hoping to compete effectively. The latter could not be carried out with the same degree of effectiveness and efficiency without access to global financial markets and the economic discipline imposed on such ventures by the funding approaches developed in infrastructure financing.
