Philosophical principles of concrete macro cultural psychology
The chapter discusses the important philosophical issue known as levels of abstraction. All phenomena have both abstract and concrete features. Both levels constitute their character. It is important to investigate abstract and concrete features of cultural factors and psychological phenomena. Psychologists typically concentrate on abstract features and overlook concrete features. Examples from cultural psychology are presented. Limitations of abstractions are explained. This chapter emphasizes the need to research concrete cultural features of psychological phenomena.
