This chapter seeks to identify the key elements of the global clinical movement that demonstrate its richness and strength. It posits three defining qualities of clinical legal education that are shared by clinical legal educators around the word: its professional educational mission, its methodology, and its commitment to reforming legal education by reorienting it toward educating lawyers for social justice. It then shows how these common qualities are maintained around the world despite wide differences among countries and regions. It argues that fundamental shared educational and professional aspirations have arisen out of this diversity that support and reinforce a worldwide community of clinicians in their efforts to transform legal education into justice education. The chapter notes that the global clinical movement must do more than aspire, but does not suggest any particular agenda; rather, it seeks to define the essence of the movement that such an agenda would serve.
