Immigration to Egypt

Immigration Worldwide

Ayman Zohry

Oxford University Press

The international migration movements to Thailand have been a consistent feature for decades, influencing the labor market as well as the social aspects in terms of the educational system and health services of Thai society. Thailand, as a receiving immigration country, is the preferred destination due to better employment opportunities and living standards for migrant workers from the sending countries of neighboring Cambodia, Lao, and Myanmar. Thus, this chapter presents an overview of the migration patterns of workers to Thailand focusing on those from Cambodia, Lao, and Myanmar and on the labor market policies. Hence, the overview discusses immigration-related cost—benefit issues of national security, health aspects as well as the legal and social protection of migrant workers.
