It is very unfortunate that religion has become a source of discord, conflict and wars. Faiths differ from each other in terms of dogmas, beliefs, and rituals. But, at the same time, all religions have also been creative, and have enabled people to attain meaningful existence. Dogmas, beliefs, and rituals are only instruments which seek to arouse a spiritual quest so that one can realize new possibilities in life. This chapter asks the following questions: What is the political role of religion? How does it affect state policy? What challenges does it pose to world peace? What positive role can religion play towards global peace and formulation of public policy for social harmony? Is secularization of the state the answer? What help can the bahudhā approach render in this context?
