Culture Contacts
Culture Contacts
This chapter discusses the different cultures the Kamars have come in contact with over the years, which have led to some changes in the tribe's economic and socio-political environment. It notes that though the Kamars have formed contacts with other castes and tribes in the past, and despite the changes that have occurred in their culture, they are still considered as having a rather low level of primitive culture. It identifies the main contacts that have changed and influenced the Kamar society, such as the agency of contractors, traders, and money-lenders. It then considers how the presence of liquor in Kamar society is viewed as a socio-religious and physical necessity. The next section look at the other factors that played key roles in changing many other primitive Indian societies. This chapter concludes with a discussion of the social changes and inclusion of foreign traits into Kamar society.
