Sir Gowther

Sir Gowther

(p.144) 5 Sir Gowther
The Sinful Knights

Oxford University Press

This chapter discusses the poem Sir Gowther, which is different from Sir Ysumbras and Guy of Warwick in being relatively obscure. Only two manuscripts of this poem survive today, and it does not appear in contemporary lists of romances. Although this romance is rather late, it is a highly developed version of the story of the penitent sinner, and shares many features with other poems.
