‘Elrich Fantasyis’
‘Elrich Fantasyis’
This chapter discusses eldritch fantasyis, a traditional type of comic writing which plays with ideas that excite fear or reverence. Its focus is on the group of Dunbar's blackly comic dream poems which includes interesting yet neglected Scottish poems, some of which were read by Dunbar. The themes of eldritch fantasyis are comic exaggerations wherein the sense of place is the dreamworld, the underworld and the otherworld. Often these poems are peopled with strange creatures such as elves, fairies and other netherworld creatures, and recount bizarre events.
