Epilogue
This chapter sums up the key findings of this study of the history of political violence in Ireland. It suggests that any discussion of Anglo-Irish relations should focus on English government and Irish resistance, locked as they were in a seemingly endless embrace. This period of embrace has often been a violent one. This is because the English people viewed violence as being the reason for the failure of constitutional evolution while the Irish nationalists considered even the ordinary English law as being tainted by the violence of conquest.
