This chapter presents a case study on cross-class courtship in the Bath marriage market in England, focusing on the case Moseley v. Collier which was decided by the court in 1747. The case was filed by lawyer Arthur Collier against Elizabeth Moseley, daughter of the First Baronet of Rolleston in Staffordshire. The case reveals the peculiar advantages and disadvantages of Bath as a marriage market and as a place of intrigue.
