Fianna Fáil took office on 9 March 1932. Between 1932 and 1938, it sought to implement its economic, social and political programme. By 1938 Fianna Fáil had developed the Irish economy as far as was possible behind the barriers of protection. This chapter discusses Fianna Fáil and its attitude to the state, the Economic War, industry and agriculture, banking and finance, social conditions and social welfare, and political developments.
