This chapter examines the developments in the teaching of mathematics and chemistry at Oxford University in England from 1914 to 1939. These two were the largest final honours schools in science during the 1930s. Mathematics had four chairs while chemistry enjoyed two. Mathematics was not encouraged by the colleges and improvements only came upon the arrival of Cambridge-trained professors H.G. Hardy and E.A. Milne. Chemistry fellows enjoyed more prominence than their counterparts in mathematics.
