While many would share common views about Africa and the Second World War which involve both the political and intellectual effects brought on by the British Army service to the Africans, we realize that there are no formal writings regarding this particular subject, and that, as such, the need arises for analysing the experiences of these African soldiers during the war. Both this chapter and in next take the point of view of the African soldiers in examining the features and functions of the war service of the Batswana in the APC, in order to establish a more accurate picture of the said army life. This chapter not only looks into the various effects brought on by the war, but also into how Batswana was able to contribute to the period's military history. It particularly aims to provide a description of the role of the Botswana troops, the training they had underwent, their duties, and how they were deployed to participate in war.
