The Dutch Reformation and the Beginnings of the Exile Movement
This chapter examines the impact of the Dutch Reformation on the exile movement among Protestants in Germany. Germany offered a friendlier environment for the Protestants because Charles V was constantly inhibited by his need to keep the cooperation of the German princes, while in the Netherlands he faced no restraint.
